Over 60s exercise classes

3Bs classes are community groups of older adults, men and women, who take part in weekly, or more, exercise classes, designed specifically for their needs. Our classes are very friendly, very welcoming and VERY supportive.

At 3Bs we don’t agree with the expression “no pain, no gain”… instead, we prefer “no ache, no cake”!

The classes include:-

to get the cirulation going

Gets blood flowing around the body, warms up our muscles ready to be exercised.

to get the joints working

Physio based movements for our joints, delivered safely around each individual’s abilities or medical issues, keeping us supple and improving or keeping our range of movements.

to keep or build our muscle mass

From the age of 70, we lose about 25% of our muscle mass, so it is important to strengthen our muscles.

to help improve our stability

Based on OTAGO exercises proven to improve balance and stability.

to bring our muscles back to their pre-exercise state and avoid injuries

We also include weight bearing exercises (to keep bones strong) and Coordination exercises (to make our brains fizz!). Our exercises are designed to help you with your daily activities and help keep you independent.

All of our classes include the all important ‘cuppa’ afterwards… a time to meet new friends or catch up with old ones….and buckets of laughter…the absolute best tonic for our mental health.

Some people find exercise daunting; 3Bs make it possible and even enjoyable with the added bonus of making new friends and being part of a big support network.

Our class details are below, why not come and join us!

Moderate Physical Activity

We are told by Public Health England that we must do 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, including strength and balance exercises.

Adults should aim for 150 minutes of exercise

Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity, in bouts of 10 minutes or more, each week.

This can also be achieved by 75 minutes of vigorous activity across the week or a mixture of moderate and vigorous.

Minimise time sitting

Minimise the amount of time spent sitting for extended periods.

Muscle strengthening

All adults should undertake muscle strengthening activities, such as exercising with weights, yoga or carrying heavy shopping.

What counts as moderate physical activity?

Any activity is better than none. It is never too late to get more active to improve health.

Friendly, knowledgeable instructor, no judgement, do what you feel comfortable doing,  something for everybody regardless of ability.

This is a friendly 3Bs class and the instructor is very considerate towards her members. Keeping in touch with them, enquiring as to how they feel each week & shows an interest in what they have been doing since the previous class. I’d certainly recommend this class to anyone, no matter what their age or abilities

The exercise class is built to give everyone a chance to take part. No matter how old you are there is always something that you can do either standing or sitting. After a class I feel invigorated and ready for the rest of the day.

It is a relaxed environment and there is no sense of competition.

Give the classes a go, Blaise is an amazing instructor and her enthusiasm shines through.

I can now confidently LUNGE and open tins manually. Improved my balance and walking generally.

Explanation of what part of the body is being used and how eg. Picking up something from the floor or climbing the stairs. A real sense of humour from Blaise.

Increased motivation and fitness prior to the operations helped me get over hip replacements quicker.

I have been suffering with joint issues and feel these exercises have kept me more supple than I otherwise would have been.
